I would like to introduce you to our beautiful, courageous and funny Thursday Thriver Jackie.

Hello! My name is Jackie and I am coming up on my two year Breast Cancer anniversary. I was diagnosed at age 23 with stage III Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with DCIS on my left side. What makes my cancer story so unique is not only my young age, but I also got the diagnosis 4 days after my now husband proposed to me! Needless to say, that week was the highest of highs and lowest of lows.

As for treatments, I’ve had a total of 20 rounds of chemo (6 TCHP and 14 Kadcyla), a bilateral mastectomy with a lymph node dissection, and 30 rounds of radiation. I started everything in early November of 2018 and ended them January 31st of this year. Other than my treatments, I have had multiple infections from my ports, pelvic floor issues, possible infertility, monthly injections, tamoxifen for 10 years, and lymphedema in my left arm. I am also set to get my reconstruction surgery (DIEP Flap) on November 3rd.

Other than my cancer, I am married to my high school sweetheart, have the cutest dog named Mia, and reside in the Bellevue area. I work for Western Psychiatric Hospital running their Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program, and am looking to go back for my Master’s degree next year. I am so in love with the little life that God has provided me and know it is only because of His strength that I am alive and well today. I give all the glory and power to Him. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about what it’s like to be an extremely young person with breast cancer!
